Sometimes when you’re using TikTok, you may notice that you’re not allowed to post anything on your For You Page. This is a common problem many TikTik users have.
Liking is a huge part of the TikTok platform. It shows your appreciation for other creators on the platform. When you are not able to like anything on TikTok this can suck as you can’t save that post for later.
One of the main reasons you can’t post or upload anything on TikTok will be because there is no internet connection. When there’s no internet connection you will usually see an error saying No Internet Connection. This means you won’t be able to post videos on TikTok until you fix it.
Many users have been facing this issue so it’s you’re not alone. You will be able to fix it depending on the methods you choose to do down below.
We will start with some of the reasons why TikTok is not letting you post anything and what you can do to fix it.
Remember that the main solution is to wait it out if you have been hit with an account ban but we will be getting into this down below.
TikTok videos will always remain an important aspect of the app so TikTok needs to regulate this carefully. I will be starting with the reason why you can’t like first of all.
Why Won’t Tiktok Let Me Post?
Right now it’s pretty hard to say why TikTok isn’t letting you post as there are several reasons as to why this issue is occurring.
Popular reasons may be down to internet issues or account issues. You would need to check your internet connection before you proceed.
One reason why TikTok won’t let you post videos is that your TikTok account may be temporarily banned from posting media for up to 24 hours.
Having a temporarily banned TikTok account will be the reason you can’t post anything. This occurs because you may have violated TikTok’s terms and conditions.
Spam posting a lot of videos may be another reason that you have been banned. This also includes adding, commenting, or liking too many times in a short space of time.
TikTok doesn’t like this and will think you’re a bot it’s best to avoid those repetitive behaviors before it catches up to you.
Another tip I would give you is to make sure the file of the image you are trying to post isn’t too large. If the file size is too big the TikTok servers will not be able to upload it onto their platform.
If the file is larger than 500MB then it is simply impossible to post a file of this file. I would reduce it by using software but if you can’t do that then post an alternative.
Another main reason which is usually probably the only reason is that your TikTok usually crashes from time to time meaning that a lot of people may be affected for a couple of hours.
You will have to be patient but they do fix it quite quickly. When this happens there isn’t much you can do other than report to TikTok but I doubt this wouldn’t affect your situation.
These are some of the more common issues users face when not being allowed to post. If they do not relate to you then you can skip ahead.
TikTok Says No Internet Connection
This is the first solution I would recommend anyone to do. The reason why nothing is posted on TikTok is that your internet is down.
Make sure your data or Wi-Fi network icon can be seen at the top of your screen. If you can’t see it then this may be an indication that your Wi-Fi has been cut and you would need to go into your settings on whichever device you’re on.
If you had Wi-Fi on when trying to post the videos then try using your cellular data. Make sure you have turned off Wi-Fi first. To turn on cellular/mobile data. go into settings on your iPhone > Tap on Mobile data then toggle it on.
Here’s how to turn on mobile data on other devices. Now try again and see if that works.
If you had cellular data on when you tried posting on TikTok then turn it off and turn on Wi-Fi instead.
Couldn’t Upload Video. The Video Was Saved To Your Drafts
The “Couldn’t Upload Video. This Video Was saved to Your Drafts” error happens when you have exceeded TikTok’s following limit.
The reason there is a posting limit on TikTok will be because they do not want bots or people who break the rules on their app.
If your account is newer then you are more likely to receive this error as your account hasn’t gained trust with TikTok.
If you create a new account and you’ve violated TikToks guidelines without following them properly you will get blocked from carrying out this action.
Newer accounts are usually penalized for a lot of things like posting and commenting too much. So take into consideration that if you’re using a new account you should be careful to avoid the Couldn’t Upload Video error.
The reason TikTok introduced the Couldn’t Upload Video error is that many new accounts are breaking the TikTok guidelines and once you break the rules you won’t be allowed to post. This can also happen if your internet connection is bad.
So bare in mind that if you’re not watching all of the person’s videos to full length then you may be hit with Couldn’t Upload Video. This Video Was saved to Your Drafts.
Free Up Storage on Your iPhone or Android
When your iPhone or Android device has too little space on it then this may cause problems when TikTok tries saving a video you’re trying to upload to your local memory.
You can clear space on your phone’s memory easily by deleting apps that you don’t use or need. If these apps aren’t used at least once a week then I would go ahead and delete them.
This can be done by either holding on to the app or going into the app section on your settings if you’re on a Samsung.
You can also delete random photos that don’t need to be in your gallery. Make sure to also go in the deleted file and clear them there so they are permanently gone from your iCloud or Google account.
How Long Does a Temporary Account Posting Ban Last
The error can last depending on how long your account has been made so it’s not for a specific set of time for an account. If you have been hit with a temporary account posting ban before then the ban will last longer.
As a rule of thumb, the ban should only last for about 24 hours. If it is longer than 24 hours then it’s probably because you’re using a new account. If you were using an old account then it would be a much shorter period.
The most common way to be able to start posting again is to wait for the ban to go again. It’s not that big of a deal if you’re not able to post any videos as it will only last for a few hours.
If you’re lucky the ban may only last for a few minutes so just stop post videos for a certain amount of time.
I would also advise you to stop uploading videos during the time you’re banned as this may affect the length of time.
When you are temporarily banned TikTok may also not show some of your other videos.
Remember that this ban is only temporary so do not worry. There are other reasons why you may not be able to post so we’ll get into that down below.
Clear Cache
I’ve already mentioned that clearing your cache can be a good way to fix this issue but I never went into depth about what this meant.
When you clear the cache on the app it takes away some of the old data stored on TikTok which makes it run a lot smoother.
This can be beneficial in your case as it will be removing any software that stops you from uploading.
The cache memory will have onto any old data that has been stored on your account so any new entries won’t get processed as it is not able to perform the activity you’re asking it to. In this case, it will not be able to post any videos you want it to.
Clearing cache varies on different devices. If you’re on ios then it is as easy as going into your Settings and going into General.
Here click on iPhone Storage > find TikTok > tap on Offload App.
If you’re on Android then just over to Settings and find the App option. Find TikTok and click on Storage then tap on Clear Cache.
Uninstall or Update TikTok
TikTok may be having a software issue for whatever reason. To stop this from happening, deleting the app may help with that.
If there is an update currently available on TikTok then I would advise you to update it as well. To update an app on the iPhone just go into the App Store and click on your profile.
Now click on the purchase section and scroll down until you see TikTok. Now press on the update notion if it is available. If you can see that option then there is no update available.
To update the app you should go into the App store of whatever device you are on and update it. Developers would have gotten rid of any previous issues wrong with the app.
To delete a video just hold on to the app until it starts shaking. Now click on the cross and press on Delete to confirm it.
Once you have deleted and re-downloaded the app, you should see that your problem is no more, if it is still an issue then it may be more serious than you might think.
Deleting the app also clears the cache so if this was the problem then it would solve this as well. You can also clear the cache by going into whatever browser settings you’re on.
Log Out of Apps With Access
What I mean by third-party apps are apps that allow you to log into TikTok and will have access to your account.
I put my hands up and admit that I have used this kind of app in the past and continue to use then. But if you’re having an issue posting on your TikTok then you should log out of those apps and delete them
TikTok may notice you are using these apps and temporarily ban you as bots are known for using such apps to spam people.
These apps gain access to your TikTok account when you give them your login details and then start doing things that go against TikTok’s guidelines.
So apps that give you more comments are the type of apps I’m talking about.
To delete apps, hold down on the app icon lightly on your home screen until you see a Cross. This is only if you’re on an iPhone device.
Tap on this cross and click Delete.
To delete apps on an Android device you would need to go into your settings.
Reset Network Settings
Your Network Settings are all the settings on your device that are related to a network. So that could be your internet connection, Wi-Fi connection, etc.
You may need to reset your network settings if you have checked your internet connection and TikTok still won’t let you post anything.
You can either do this by turning on Airplane Mode on whichever device you’re using. This is a quick fix to solve any issues. You can do this by either swiping down on your iPhone or going into Settings on your Android.
Remember to only do this if your internet connection is not working.
If you’re using Wi-Fi and you have access to the router then you should try turning off the router for a few minutes before you turn it back on. This should be done if you’re using TikTok on a PC.
If none of these work then you should go into settings and turn reset your network settings properly.
You can do this on your iPhone by going into Settings > Scroll down and click General > Tap on Reset and hit Reset Network Settings. This is how to reset it on an Android device.
Restart Your Device
Your device may be the reason why your videos won’t post. Restarting your device will get rid of any temporary software issue you may be having.
To restart your device on the iPhone, hold down the power/sleep button while holding down the home button.
The power button is on the right side of your device. Hold this down for 3 seconds until your screen goes black and you should then see the Apple logo.
It should take about 30 more seconds until the restart is finished. Once you’ve done this check if your problem is solved.
To restart an android device you would need to hold down on the power button for a few seconds. Once you see the option to restart then tap this option.
If you don’t see the option to restart then continue to hold down until your device restarts. For a further in-depth explanation, check out Ifixit’s guide on how to force restart your iPhone.
TikTok Stories Won’t Post
This is a common issue that can be quite annoying. The main reason this happens is because of a connection issue. You can know it’s an internet connection problem if there is an error if you try to post a TikTok story.
If you have a low signal then your connection may not be strong enough to upload any videos or files to your story. I will be getting more into this as I explain further on.
If the TikTok story you’re trying to upload is too long then TikTok won’t let you post it because it can only show stories of a certain length.
TikTok has not released a limit to stories so as a ballpark if your video is more than 15 seconds then I would cut it in your iPhone or Android gallery before you try posting it to TikTok.
The Shorter the video the more likely it will be posted because it takes less processing power to upload so try and make the story as short as possible.
TikTok introduced stories in early 2022 so if you didn’t know about this feature you should update the app and maybe it will be available. It is still not available in some countries so keep this in mind.
Force Start The TiKTok App
Whenever TikTok won’t post a video the immediate thing that comes to thought is to close the app which is what a force start is.
Force starting TikTok will get rid of any temporary software glitches I was talking about. This goes the same with malfunctions.
To force close the app on your iPhone you should double-tap your home button until you see apps pop up. Now swipe up on TikTok.
If you don’t have a home button on your iPhone then swipe up from the bottom and follow the steps above. If you’re on a newer iPhone model then just swipe up from the bottom.
If you’re on an Android phone like a Samsung then just go into settings and look for App, find the TikTok then hit force close.
You can also quickly do this by just pressing the left option on the bottom of your Samsung. This will bring up all the apps.
Once you are done go back on the app and check if TikTok will let you post videos. If not then go on to the next solution.
Create a New Account
If you find that you can’t post anything on your TikTok account then it is worth making a new account so you can start uploading again.
Even though you may be temporarily banned this will only last for a few days so you will have to decide whether or not that is too long for you.
If you have another account you can post anything on there as the ban will probably not affect your other account. In the case that you don’t have another account then you can make a new one.
To make a new TikTok account you will have to open the app and go onto your profile. From here you should click on the gear icon which is where all of your settings are.
From here scroll down and tap on switch account. From here you will want to click on add new account.
Once you have clicked on this you should choose a new method to sign up. That could be either through your email or number. Once you have chosen the one you will need to decide on a password to use.
TikTok Might be Down
The reason why you may not be able to post TikTok is that the app is down in general. When this happens pretty much nothing works on the app.
It becomes very glitchy and frustrating. When this happens all you can do is wait for TikTok to find the problem.
They usually do this in less than 24 hours. You can tell when it is down by using the Down Detector website.
This gives in live reports whenever apps are down. You can see a graph which shows you how big the problem is.
If there is a large spike then the app is most likely down for a lot of people. The result of this is things like videos not loading and posting.
If you are unable to wait then I would suggest you just use another social media app until the issue has been resolved.
It usually takes less than 2 hours to fix an outage on a social media platform. You can easily tell an app is down by looking at what other people are saying on other apps so you will know for sure when it happens.
Report Problem to TikTok
Hopefully, by now you have resolved the problem and can now post anything you like. In rare instances where you still are not able to post anything then as a final resort, I would report these issues to TikTok.
Here you can explain to them what the problem is and hopefully, they will be able to resolve it. This can be done on the app but going into your profile settings, click on Help > then tap Report A Problem.
I would also take a screenshot of anything that comes up when you try to upload a video. Look for the relevant article when you’re on the report page.
The only downside to this is that it may take TikTok up to a week to respond to your report. This is because they go through so many reports a day so they will need to filter through all of them before they get to yours.
I would suggest getting straight to the point in your report to help speed up the process. This isn’t necessary but just as a last precaution since it may be quite clear that there is something wrong with your account.
Conclusion
It’s fair to say that there may be a chance some of the tips I have given you today may not work resulting in you contacting TikTok themselves.
However, I suggest you try your best to fix this issue on your own as it is usually just a quick fix. A really simple way to solve it is to just turn off your wifi then give it a few seconds before you turn it back off.
If it is an account issue then you will need to go to contact TikTok but you won’t know that for sure unless they tell you so try everything you can first before you come to other conclusions.
Please do let me know if this article has helped in any way by commenting down below so that others can use the tops that worked for you.
If you did manage to fix the problem with a method that isn’t on here, then please let me know in the comments below so I can add it to this list. This will help other people facing the problem fix it.
Keep in mind that if the wifi connection you’re trying to join keeps saying unable to join the network then the problem is usually with the wifi or data network itself and not your iPhone or iPad.
