What Does 1 New Mean on Facebook Search

what does new mean on facebook search

Facebook has recently released a new feature that confused many regular Facebook users. This feature comes up when you search for someone.

1 new means that you have missed 1 new thing on that person’s account but what is this new thing you may ask.

I’ve done some experimenting with two Facebook accounts and we have been testing certain things this ‘New’ feature may be talking about. We ended up finding the answer.

In this article, I’m going to be explaining what the 1 new feature means when you’re searching for someone’s name on Facebook.

What Does 2 New Mean on Facebook Search

If you see ‘2 New‘ with a blue dot when you go to search someone’s name then it means that that account has shared Facebook posts that you haven’t seen yet.

This could just mean that you haven’t been on Facebook for a while or you haven’t scrolled on your timeline so you might have missed this post.

To avoid this feature showing up, you should be scrolling on your timeline so you see all of your friends’ posts.

This feature will not show up if you aren’t friends with someone. It will only show up for people you are friends with, Facebook groups you are in, and Facebook pages you have liked.

The number of posts you haven’t seen from this person will indicate the number next to the new feature. If you have missed 2 posts then it will say 2 New.

You may notice that the words ‘Friends’ come up next to it. This doesn’t have anything to do with the feature. It just means you’re friends.

Unfortunately, you won’t be able to specifically see which posts you have missed you will just have to spot the ones you don’t remember seeing.

Your best bet would be to look at the most recent posts by going to their profile and scrolling a bit.

What Happens When You View The Post

Once you click on that person’s profile and view the number of posts Facebook is saying you haven’t seen yet, the ‘New’ indicator should leave within a few hours.

It doesn’t leave straight away for whatever reason. This could just be that Facebook software is still taking time to register that you have seen this person’s posts.

If the 1 New post feature still doesn’t leave when you view the post, then it could just be that you haven’t actually viewed the post.

You may need to scroll through their profile for a bit as it could not be the new posts they have shared. This feature doesn’t actually mean that it’s the most recent post they have shared.

The feature isn’t clickable and the person will not be notified if you view their new posts.

Conclusion

You should know what 1 or 2 new means when you go and search for someone’s name on Facebook. It means that it’s an account that has shared posts that you haven’t seen yet.

If you haven’t seen this post then you will see a blue dot that says the amount of posts you haven’t seen from that account, whether it’s from your timeline or on their profile.

Once you view these posts, the feature will leave eventually. If you view them from your timeline, you should see no new posts when you search for their name.
